Term Submission

    We developed our magazine by choosing the photos, the layouts, the article topics, and much more in a way we felt fit what we were trying to show best. All of these choices had a reason behind them, I felt they were the best choices because I felt that they fit our magazine best and what we are trying to sell to our audience. We kept the look of our magazine very clean and simple, so it wouldn't become too distracting, but had enough boldness and color to make it exciting.

Photo Shoots

     I will be photographing different fish, different locations My group and other friends went fishing, and I picture of the place I interviewed. The process of scheduling was a little difficult since everyone has school, sports, and other things going on in their life. So we would break our photo shoots between different days and times. Until we finally had a good assortment of pictures we were happy with.

 
 

 

Locations for photo shoots

    For this project, I went to couple different beaches and parts of the bay. We went during all different times of day for different lighting and see what different types of fish came out. The ones I end up using will show different places in Sarasota, at different times of day, and when scouting out these locations I had many different people helping me and showing me some good places to find the best fish.

Interview

    I thought a lot about who I wanted to interview and why I wanted to interview them. When I finally decided about who I should interview, I wanted to get a perspective on for the article I am writing about which is about red tide. During red tide in Sarasota I thought the people who would of taken the hardest hits would have been our local restaurants near the water. I decided to talk to Alex Goldman, a manager at one of Sarasota's most popular restaurants called Shore. When I told him about what I was doing he made it very easy for to sit down and ask him a couple questions. I thought    about a few questions I could ask him, my final questions that I asked were how much did the red tide affect their restaurant, how did they try to over come the red tide problem, and did they think red tide was as bad as it was claimed to be. These seemed to be key points on the red tide issue and how it effected our community.

Flat Plan

    For my flat plan I included many different types of articles about fish to fishing to equipment. I wanted to give a variety so the magazine to appeal to someone just wanting to know a little about fish or someone who has been been fishing for their whole life. The variety of different articles, it can cater for all ages and genders. About half of my flat plan includes ads, which is very similar to what I saw in most magazines I researched. The ads were very much back to back, the only separation were articles, or sometimes they would put ads on within the articles. That's why I felt it was important to include many ads within my magazine.

Table of contents

   For our project my group members and I created our table of contents with five articles on pages that vary throughout the magazine. In the magazines I researched, most of the table of contents offered the main articles and they varied between different pages. In our table of contents, we are included two images. Most table of contents we compared to ours had two to four pictures included promoting ads or some of the articles. I felt it was best to have two images, so the readers were not too distracted from the articles that were inside our magazine. Our table of contents title is the same as our cover title because it is very bold and eye-catching, then used a more standard font for our articles to have a more clean and simple design, so it does not seem too busy.

   The title for our article is called Florida Angler. One of our group members, Kyle Manitz, came up with the title Florida Angler. Kyle has been fishing for over ten years, so he has been able to pick up different types of terminology and techniques of the years. We all agreed that since we live and all of our research and pictures were taken in Florida, that should be apart of our magazine. Kyle also had mentioned how "Angler" is another word for fishing. So, when the four of us heard the two words together, we thought it sounded right. For our cover we have two different fonts, blackoak std and brush script std. We chose these fonts because the main article title and the title of the magazine are much bigger and more bold, giving a contrast to the smaller articles showing that they have less significance.

Magazine Project Genre Research #5

  The last magazine I researched is Florida Sport Fishing November/December 2018.  This magazine I feel was the best magazine I looked at. It had an abundance of information compared to the other magazines. Starting with the cover, it is very bright, colorful, and bold from the text size and font choice, it is all very eye catching. The cover also includes titles and a little description about featuring articles inside the magazine. Once, you open the magazine you see multiple articles about fishing equipment and some about fishing techniques. There was many pages with ads for fishing rods, hooks, and other boating equipment. This magazine also includes a table of contents, but I could not find a distribution number for the magazine.

Magazine Project Genre Research #4

 The 4th magazine that I researched is In-Fisherman the October/November 2018 issue. This magazine company is mainly focused on freshwater fishing, which the cover says. The title of this magazine is very bold with a bright color to catch the attention of the reader. The cover offers a preview of some articles featured inside the magazine and a little detail about the type of fish for the cover of the magazine. This is the first magazine I researched that has a table of contents inside the magazine. The kinds of articles that are included inside are about more fishing supplies like different types of hooks, rods, and other devices you can use while fishing. I was not able to find a distribution number.

Magazine Project Genre Research #3

 The third magazine I researched if from Saltwater Sportsman the November/ December of 2018 edition. This magazine starts with a picture of a man on a boat being blurred, while the fish he is holding is very clear. This was done to make the fish the main attraction to the cover and what draws you into the magazine. The cover uses fairly large font for the title and even subtitles letting you know what some the articles are about. This magazine mainly is about different boats and features that come and/or be put on them. Towards the back of the magazine there is a section about different types of fish, where they like to live, and other comments about them. There are quite a few advertisements for boat features and accessories throughout the magazine, they even have some coupons in the back. There seems to be no table of contents in this magazine, except the cover does give some pages numbers on where to find their bigger articles are. I was not able to find a distribution number for this magazine.

Magazine Project Genre Research #2

 This second magazine I researched was from Fly Fisherman, Oct., Nov., and Dec. of 2018 edition. The cover contains of the title of Fly Fisherman very big and a standard type font, it has a ombre effect to it. The image of the cover consists of lake fishing with a man holding a catfish. This specific edition is a part of Fly Fisherman's 50th anniversary and the cover offers a little what is inside the magazine. The magazine mainly has articles is this edition, they are about different type of fish, fishing styles, and locations to fish. Most of of the articles have the same font and size to them, some even pertain to the 50th anniversary. This magazine doesn't have many advertisements, but the ones it does have is about different fishing tools that can be very helpful to this art. There was no where I could see that the magazine had a distribution number.

Magazine Project Genre Research #1

  My first magazine that I researched Sport Fishing September/October edition of 2018. The cover has the name of the magazine in big, bold letters, also going over a little bit what some articles and products included inside the magazine. The cover has a large image of a fish called Mahi Mahi or also known as a "dolphin fish". The majority of the magazine goes between the colors of blue and green and different text features are used throughout the magazine, some include different sized text, fonts, and positions in the whole magazine. The kinds of articles included are ones about fishing stories, different types of fish, boats and fishing rods. Also, many different types of advertisements about different fishing tools and products. I was not able to find  distribution number for this magazine.

Project Selection//My Decision

   I have chosen to do the magazine project. I have chosen to do the magazine project because it caters more to my skill set. Some of those skills consist of writing, organization, and etc... Then genre of the magazine will be based all around fishing. For instance, about fishing gear, techniques, and so much more. I will be in a group project, and my partners include Axa Salas, Kyle Manitz, and Tucker Wyles. We intend to work very diligently and be very collective throughout the entire project. All members of the project will work equally and we will all work as a team to put our best effort towards this project. 

Project Selection//Film

Film

        I believe that if I picked the film project, it would not be the best choice for me. The film project would not be my first choice because I have never been great at recording and directing. I have never felt comfortable holding a camera, I always feel like I will drop or shake the camera and ruin the video. In my opinion, film making requires a certain skill set, which I definitely do not        have. Throughout this class, we have learned and watched many films that helped me make my decision. Some of the activities have taught me that film making requires a lot of imagination and creativity, which requires you to think on your feet. For me, this would be incrediblly difficult .This is why I believe the film project would not be the best option for me.

Project Selection//Magazine

Magazine

      The magazine would be a good choice for my AICE Media Studies project, it would be a good fit for many reasons. One reason would be that the skills I possess would be more suited for the magazine rather than the film. Some of those skills consist of writing and my organization. I feel my writing could be better used toward the articles and I would be able to put the magazine more together than I would editing a film. Also, there are multiple aspects to print journalism that we have gone over in class that had interested me. Some of them consisted of stories from the series we watched called Newsroom. It is a show about a cable news company trying to produce the best and most honest breaking news stories. The Newsroom had showed me all of the amazing things that can come from writing, especially about things going on in the world right now.
